Black and White

Black and white photography can deliver emotions that often go beyond what a color image can do. It would seem the opposite but the high contrasts, the strength of the visual impact, the communication that we can achieve with black and white photography are very powerful. This brings me back to think of when I was spending hours and hours in the dark room, experimenting with the photo enlarger, choosing filters and papers and going through the different steps with the chemicals, to get that black and white print exactly the way I wanted. The problem was that my dark room was actually the house bathroom, that I was adapting sealing window and door with black cardboard and replacing the light bulb with a red one. You can imagine my Mom was not particularly happy with that situation, but she put up with it because she loved her child.

Much easier now with digital, if you want... But seeing the image you shot slowly appearing in front of your eyes on that piece of paper in the developer tray, was really a magical experience, difficult to forget.
